GLP-1 S tablets almost always refer to oral semaglutide, the tablet form of a GLP-1 receptor agonist. The FDA-approved version is Rybelsus (made by Novo Nordisk).

It works the same way as injectable semaglutide (like Ozempic / Wegovy), but it’s taken by mouth.

Here’s what it does in the body:

1. Suppresses Appetite

Activates GLP-1 receptors in the brain.

Effects:

•Reduced hunger

•Increased fullness

•Smaller portion sizes

•Fewer cravings

2. Slows Stomach Emptying

Food stays in the stomach longer.

Effects:

•Longer-lasting satiety

•Less post-meal blood sugar spike

3. Improves Blood Sugar Control

Stimulates insulin release when glucose is elevated and suppresses glucagon.

Effects:

•Lower fasting glucose

•Lower A1C

•Improved insulin sensitivity over time

4. Promotes Weight Loss

Weight loss occurs mainly from eating less.

Oral semaglutide typically causes:

•Moderate weight loss (dose dependent)

•Usually somewhat less than high-dose injectable versions

5. Cardiometabolic Benefits

May improve:

•Blood pressure

•Cholesterol

•Cardiovascular risk markers

Important Difference: Tablets vs Injection

Oral semaglutide:

•Must be taken on an empty stomach

•With a small amount of water

•No food or drink for at least 30 minutes afterward

•Absorption is lower and more sensitive to timing than injections
